Watch Hill Carousel Sunset Oil Painting Almost Finished- See how it progressed

Most recent photo of the Watch Hill Carousel oil painting. I have painted the foreground leaves and more architectural details to the buildings. I will continue glazing areas of the painting until I think it is finished.

I started this large 40"x 40" oil painting of the carousel or sometimes called the flying horses way back in October of last year. I often work on several paintings at once because I like to view the art over a period of time.

Painting the Detail on Watch Hill Merry Go Round Oil Painting on Canvas

The Watch Hill, Rhode Island oil painting of the merry go round and Napa Tree Point is coming along. I am working on the detail around the carousel area. Adding more detail to the carousel itself and the kids riding the merry-go-round. The photo below is just a small area on this large 40 inch by 40 inch oil painting on canvas.

This Saturday from 4:30 - 7pm is a gallery opening with art demonstrations at Artisans Harbor in Old Saybrook. It's a free event and a unique way to enjoy your happy hour on Saturday evening!  I will be demonstrating watercolor painting during the opening. Update on the Watch Hill Carousel Oil Painting

I have been working on the Watch Hill, Rhode Island flying horse carousel oil painting again. This carousel is a New England favorite for so many people, it really is a beautiful spot.

I have more of a sunset glow in this shoreline painting now. If you compare my last post http://continuing-oil-painting-of-flying-horse.html on this painting you can see the difference in the colors. I have also started the foreground leaves in the lower right. I still have quite a bit of work to do in the foreground area and the carousel. I will be adding the detail under the roof of the carousel last. Remember this is a big oil painting -  4 feet by 4 feet.

Oil Painting of the Historic Carousel in Watch Hill Rhode Island In progress - Follow Along

I have continued working on the oil painting on canvas of a view of the historic carousel in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. I have continued refining the buildings and the roof of the carousel. If you compare previous posts you can see how the painting has more and more detail. I added an earlier photo of the painting for you to see the difference.
I will be painting the foreground bushes next so check back to see how this painting of the Flying Horse Carousel progresses. This is a large canvas 40 inch by 40 inch and I have a beautiful thick gold frame for this painting.

Continuing the Flying Horse Carousel Oil Painting - A New England historic landmark located in Watch Hill, Rhode Island

I have started painting again in the sky area of this oil on canvas of the flying horse carousel in Watch Hill, RI., a national historic landmark in New England. Working my way from the background to the foreground I am finishing the sky area first. I wanted the sunset to be more intense with a brighter reflection in the water. The setting sun is top half and just off center in the canvas. If you follow that bright area down you will see the line of people waiting to ride the carousel. This is the focal point of the painting. I had already worked out my composition before I even started painting on the canvas. This makes the painting quicker and easier when many decisions have already been worked out.

Continuing to Paint The Flying Horse Carousel from Watch Hill, Rhode Island

I have continued painting in the initial layer of oil paint over my sketch of the flying horse carousel at Watch Hill, RI. I have started adding more detail to the carousel area and the people around it. At this point I will be going back over each area with more paint and adding more detail as I go. Next Step in Watch Hill Sunset - Painting the Sky and Water

The next step in painting this large canvas is to paint the background using my initial sketch as a guide. I started painting the sky and water and continued moving forward in the painting. The composition is already done from my previous step so I use that to lay in the color. I follow the values or the light and dark areas of the painting that are done with the burnt sienna paint. The color looks a little more blue than it really is. When photographing paintings it is difficult to get the same color as the painting. I will try and get a better photo in the next step. Starting Watch Hill Sunset with Carousel Oil Painting On Canvas

This is the start of an oil painting from Watch Hill, Rhode Island with the famous flying horse carousel. This is a large painting, the size is 40 inch by 40 inch. I started by painting this burnt sienna color right on the the large canvas, laying out the compostion. This also helps with the values or the light and dark areas of the painting. I want to keep this a warm painting with yellows, oranges, and brown colors throughout the entire painting. I am starting a new oil painting on canvas of a Watch Hill Rhode Island sunset with the famous carousel. This will be a large painting, the size is 40 inch by 40 inch. But this color sketch is just 6 inches, I wanted to work out the colors I will be using for the large canvas. I want to keep this a warm painting with yellows, oranges, and brown colors throughout the entire painting.
